Project Overview

To create an engaging virtual experience for the launch of Disney Channel’s series Kiff, Little Cinema designed, developed, and built a fully branded and interactive digital platform hosted on our proprietary event technology, Backstage. The event was attended by invited influencers, their families, and press. The result was a customizable & engaging framework that continues to be used by Disney for their other virtual premieres.

Goals & Objectives

We needed to create an experience that would reach an audience across multiple geographic regions, that was easy for the client to customize with their desired branding, and that maintained the highest level of content security (forensic watermarking and digital rights management) needed for a premiere setting. Our Goal was to enhance the user experience and increase engagement for the Disney & Kiff brand – primarily among children and their parents.

Event Flow

After logging in to the platform with a valid email address, guests were welcomed with a pop-up that invited them use the augmented-reality event photobooth and explained the interactive buttons.

The experience consisted of 3 ‘Acts’; at the start of each new act, the platform underwent a change in the background skin of the virtual theater and the ‘buddy’ button on the bottom of the page, transforming the overall design of the site multiple times throughout the experience.

The second Act included a secure advanced screening of the first episode of Kiff.

Interactive Buttons

We gamified the experience by building five interactive buttons that attendees were prompted to use throughout the event. Four (4) of the buttons triggered custom animations that would cascade across the screen. During the episode screening, the platform displayed pop-up notifications on screen that prompted attendees to interact with the buttons to “help” characters Kiff and Barry in real time.

The final button was a special ‘buddy’ button that could be pressed at any time to trigger a pop-up animation of the characters from the show, waving hello to the attendees.

Attendees using the interactive features:

Live Chat

Attendees were prompted to interact with pop-up trivia prompts by placing answers in the chat. We also gave verified badges & custom avatars to the Kiff, Barry, and Miss Deer characters to highlight their presence at the event and make the chat experience more engaging.

Augmented-Reality Photo Booth

Guests could take Kiff themed photos using our augmented-reality photo booth technology. All photos were added to the event gallery, allowing them to see themselves among the Tabletown residents.

Download/Print Module

Attendees were able to download branded coloring sheets directly from the platform to practice their artistic skills at home, giving them a tangible takeaway from the experience.

Gameplay Reward

During Act 1 of the event, attendees were able to preview Disney’s companion game to this series, called “Kiff: Reel Good Time”. At the conclusion of the experience, the platform sent emails to all attendees, providing them with exclusive early access to the game via disneynow.com.
