Virtual Premiere Experience & Platform


Project Overview

To promote season 2 of the “Star Trek Picard,” Little Cinema partnered with Paramount+ to create an immersive and fan-forward virtual premiere experience. We designed, developed, and built a fully branded and interactive digital experience using our proprietary event technology, Backstage. The experience was set within a recreation of the iconic ‘10 Forward’ bar from the Star Trek universe, and the narrative was based on the storyworld of Star Trek. It was attended by Star Trek superfans and influencers.

Goals & Objectives

We needed to create an experience that would reach an audience across multiple geographic regions, that was easy for the client to customize with their desired branding, and that maintained the highest level of content security (forensic watermarking and digital rights management) needed for a premiere setting. Our Goal was to capture the iconic feel of "Star Trek" and allow audiences to experience one of the most celebrated settings of the show (10 Forward), all while interacting with the storyworld of the new season.

 

 

Event Flow

The experience kicked off with an exclusive message from none other than Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), leading into the world premiere screening of Star Trek Picard Season 2.

After the screening, attendees moved into happy hour at the infamous ‘10 Forward’ bar hosted by two live actors - bartender ‘Leandra’ and her eccentric patron, ‘Shriv’.

‘Leandrea’ was played by Angélique Roché, a well-known host, moderator, writer, & content creator. She is currently the host of Marvel Entertainment's Marvel's Voices podcast, and is celebrated in the sci-fi community.

Activities in the bar included a live improv pub trivia and karaoke of series-favorite songs, with viewers “calling in” and participating from around the country – along with their pets, children and cosplay.

Talent from the series dropped in to answer some questions and share their thoughts and enthusiasm for the new season.

After too many shots for Shriv, it was closing time for the 10 Forward.


 

Set & Wardrobe Design

Our 10 Forward set was built in partnership with 15|40 productions, and featured straight-from-the-series props, costumes, and set pieces revealing easter eggs from the upcoming series. Attendees “ordered” from a selection of in-world beverages like Aldebaran Whiskey, Romulan Ale, a vintage Picard wine, and the fan favorite “hooch.”

Our character ‘Shiv’ is an off-duty starfleet Andorian “barfly”, based on the humanoid extraterrestrial race from the Star Trek universe native to the blue icy Class M moon, Andoria. He wore a star fleet uniform loaned to our production from Paramount.

Our bartender ‘Leandra’ wore green as a color palate to reference the uniforms worn by the bartenders in the original 10 Forward featured in Star Trek Next Generation.

 

Technology

This experience was hosted on Backstage, a proprietary virtual event platform created by Little Cinema. The technology allowed for this program to be an interactive broadcast, with the actors responding in real time to fans in the live chat. Fans were also invited to join the broadcast on video to answer trivia questions.

Augmented-Reality Photo Booth

The platform also offered an Augmented Reality photobooth where virtual attendees could add their photo to the event gallery. The final gallery featured 690 photobooth snaps.
